Pterocereus

Pterocereus foetidus   Pterocereus foetidus
Pterocereus gaumeri (Brittion & Rose) MacDougall & Miranda.
From Yucatan, Southern Mexico

Plant approximately 3m tall in the collection of Suzanne & Tony Mace from cuttings imported from Mexico in the 1970s by Clive Innes of Holy Gate nursery. Given a minimum temperature of 50F (10C) they grow quickly and flower profusely. The form of the plant with its unusual three angled stems, fast growth and branching from the base and the peculiar flowers present many unique features and I am not happy with Anderson's placement of the taxon under Pachycereus which has become rather a dumping ground for species of uncertain affinity. I have unfortunately not seen fruit or seeds as we only have a single clone.
